Kevin Costner Calls Horizon Sexual Harassment Accusation ‘False’ and Meant to ‘Damage My Reputation’

Kevin Costner Denies Stunt Performer’s Sexual Assault Allegations, Calls Claims “A Blatant Lie”

Kevin Costner is pushing back strongly against sexual assault allegations made by stunt performer Devyn LaBella, calling her claims “a blatant lie” in a recent legal filing.

LaBella initially filed a lawsuit in May, later amended in June, alleging that during production of Horizon: An American Saga, she was forced into an unplanned, non-consensual sex scene. She claimed she experienced “shock, embarrassment, and humiliation,” saying she was never given a chance to prepare for or consent to the scene in question.

In a motion to strike filed in California Superior Court, Costner, 70, denied all allegations. “Devyn’s claims against me are absolutely false,” he stated. “It is deeply disappointing that someone from our production would invent such a ‘nightmare.’”

He further alleged the accusations were an attempt to harm his reputation and the Horizon film series, adding: “These allegations are so patently false I can only assume they were designed to embarrass and damage me.”

Costner submitted supporting evidence, including photos of LaBella on set, alleged text messages where she described her time on the project as “these wonderful weeks,” and witness statements from twelve crew members. He said LaBella was “laughing and smiling” during the scene’s rehearsal and continued working on set afterward, even taking her stunt coordinator to dinner to thank him.

The scene in question, according to Costner, was not an assault but a “buildup and foretelling” of offscreen violent rape scenes that occur later in the film.

Costner emphasized the personal toll of defending against such serious accusations but insisted he would continue to speak out for the sake of the truth and his crew.

The case remains ongoing, with Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 still awaiting a release date following the June 2024 debut of Chapter 1.
