Donnie Wahlberg reveals Tom Selleck’s thoughts on Boston Blue return
Donnie Wahlberg revealed that Tom Selleck has been very supportive of the Boston Blue spinoff, though his return as Frank Reagan is still uncertain. Speaking at CBS Fest on April 15, Wahlberg explained that he reached out to Selleck early on, and the veteran actor responded with genuine enthusiasm for continuing the Reagan family story.
Despite that encouragement, Wahlberg made it clear there’s no guarantee Selleck will reprise his iconic role. He noted that Selleck may choose to return as Frank—or might prefer to take on something entirely different if he gets involved at all. The decision ultimately comes down to what excites him creatively at this stage of his career.
Wahlberg emphasized that three key factors would need to align: a strong script, the right timing, and the overall production situation. He respects Selleck’s high standards and doesn’t want him to return unless the project truly feels right. Still, Wahlberg remains hopeful, hinting that more appearances from original Blue Bloods cast members are planned, keeping the door open for a possible Reagan family reunion.
