Legendary actor Tom Selleck has done a lot in his life but he’s never done this

“Occasionally I’ve looked up my name,” Selleck told People. “That started really with the book, but I’ve never sent my own email. I had a secretary. I’ve never texted anybody.” And while he does have a phone capable of texting, Selleck admitted that if anyone has ever received a text from him, it was really the work of his wife, sending a response on his behalf.

“I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise,” Selleck confesses. “But I don’t know. I have a hard time writing things down, which is weird for a guy who’s pushing a book.” Selleck’s memoir ”You Never Know” is set to hit bookstands in less than a month on May 7. He tells People that his path to Hollywood isn’t the usual story, which he describes in his upcoming book. Instead he says his rather successful career as an actor was an “accident.”

“I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do,” he says. “I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.” He also discusses his reason for leaving the show that made him a household name, “Magnum, P.I.”, According to Selleck, he “got off that train” after his then-toddler daughter was diagnosed and hospitalized with viral pneumonia. As he told People, at the same time all of this was happening, he was also scheduled to begin his 1992 movie with Marlon Brando, “Christopher Columbus: The Discovery.”
